Description
Mere Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early 17th century, with some earlier elements incorporated into its design. The building features red brick in English bond and a timber-framed rear wing with brick infill, topped by a plain tile roof. It has brick external lateral stacks and an end stack, both with star and lozenge-shaped shafts. The farmhouse is oriented northeast to southwest and has two rear wings aligned northwest to southeast.
The structure is two storeys tall with an attic and consists of four bays, each topped with a crow-stepped gable and finial. There are two-storey square bay windows on the left and right, both with crenellated parapets. A two-storey porch is located to the right of centre, featuring a segmental arched doorway and a crow-stepped gable. The windows are mainly mullioned, with brick dripstones, and include several three-light windows. The first-floor windows on the right, left, and left of centre are transomed, while the ground and first floors have two-light windows between the porch and the right-hand bay. There are small blocked windows on the ground floor to the left of centre and on the first floor immediately left of the porch. The ground floor also features 19th and 20th-century casements to the left, right, and centre, partly within 17th-century openings.
At the rear, there is a gabled timber-framed wing, likely from the late 16th century, which has close studding and a jettied first floor. It retains a blocked attic window with wooden mullions. The interior has not been inspected but is noted to have panelled window shutters.
