Description

Mere Hall is a stable block that has been converted into a house. It dates from the mid-18th century, with early 19th and 20th-century alterations. The building is constructed of red brick with ashlar dressings and features a plain tile roof, along with brick ridge stacks and integral end stacks. It is aligned east-west and faces south.

The structure consists of a central two-storey block flanked by slightly lower wings, which were originally one storey; the right-hand wing now has an inserted first floor. The building has a plinth with moulded coping and pilasters that flank the central block. It has a total of 5:4:5 bays, with the wings featuring blind panels and keyed semi-circular arches that spring from imposts. There are several inserted windows and a central conservatory on the right-hand wing.

The main entrance features a central half-glazed door with a rusticated and keyed architrave, flanked by a pair of blind windows with gauged brick heads. Most of the windows are 20-pane glazing bar sashes, some of which have replaced smaller windows with gauged brick heads. The first-floor windows have a sill band that continues onto the wings. Mere Hall is part of an interesting group of farm buildings that are arranged symmetrically and were formerly associated with a now-demolished house.
