Description

The Wood is a farmhouse located in Kinnerley, dating from the early 17th century with later additions and alterations. The building is timber-framed with pebbledashed infill set on a high pebbledashed plinth, topped with a graded slate roof. It features a three-unit baffle-entry plan. The framing includes irregular square and rectangular panels, with two panels extending from the cill to the wall plate.

On the exterior, there are three early 20th-century casement windows directly below the eaves and three on the ground floor, with two on the left and one on the right of a contemporary gabled porch that has a half-glazed outer door. A red brick ridge stack with moulded capping is positioned directly above the entrance, along with an integral end stack to the left that has a late 20th-century red brick shaft.

Inside, the ground floor showcases chamfered spine beams. The timber frame, featuring square panels and jowled wall posts, is visible on the first floor. An oak winder staircase leads to the attic. The single-purlin roof consists of three bays plus an additional bay to the left for the end stack, incorporating a mix of collar and tie-beam trusses along with raking struts from the tie beams to the principal rafters. There is also an early 20th-century two-storey gabled addition at right angles to the rear, which is not of special architectural interest.
