Description

ELLESMERE RURAL C.P. - SJ 33 NW 3/76 Plas Yolyn(formerly - listed as Plas Iolyn) 27.5.53 GV II* Small country house. Mid-C18 possibly incorporating parts of an earlier building, extensively remodelled for William Challoner between c.1780 and 1800. Red brick with sandstone ashlar facing to front; hipped slate roofs. 2 and 3 storeys with stone modillion eaves cornice and parapet. 1:3:1 bays, centre section forming slightly projecting break with extra storey; glazing bar sashes, tripartite to outer bays. Central entrance; small open-pedimented Roman Doric portico with 2 pairs of fluted columns and guttae to pediment. Contemporary half-glazed door with rectangular overlight. Red brick ridge stacks to either side of centre section with external end stacks to left and right. Left and right returns have plain floor bands (dentilled to front part on left) and toothed eaves cornice. Rear has twin gables with central valley and integral end stacks; coped verges on carved stone kneelers. Scattered C19 segmental-headed casements. Interior.
