Description

Cadeby Hall is a small country house, now empty and partly derelict, dating from the early 18th century and raised in the late 18th century. It is constructed of ashlar stone with an asbestos hipped roof and two red brick stacks on the ridge. The building is three storeys high with a seven-bay front arranged in a 2:3:2 pattern, featuring a plinth and a moulded sill band at the second floor. The central entrance has an eight-panelled door surrounded by a moulded and eared architrave, topped with a broken segmental pediment on scrolled brackets, and flanked by three glazing bar sash windows in moulded stone architraves with key blocks. The first floor has seven similar windows, while the second floor features seven smaller sash windows with splayed ashlar lintels. The rear of the house indicates that the top storey is a late 18th-century addition.

Inside, the house retains a fine early 18th-century staircase and gallery, which includes a moulded wreathed handrail, fluted newels, a decorative carved open string, and three turned and knopped balusters that alternate between fluted, barley sugar, and twisted designs. The hall features a large fireplace surround with moulded scrolled brackets and a pediment. The staircase and part of the hall have raised and fielded dado panelling. The house is set within landscaped terraces, and the viewing mound remains intact.
