Description
Glebe Farm House is a farmhouse that likely dates back to around 1700, with early and later 19th century and 20th century alterations. It is constructed of colourwashed brick and features cogged brick eaves. The roof is made of concrete tiles, with brick ridge and end stacks. The building has a three-unit lobby-entry plan, which has been extended to the right and includes added rear wings. It stands two storeys tall and has a four-window range at the first floor, showcasing early 19th century unhorned 4/8 sash windows.
On the ground floor, to the left of centre, there is a three-light 20th century window in an altered opening, flanked by a 19th century doorcase with a part-glazed door. To the centre right, there is a part-glazed door leading into the lobby, a two-light 20th century window to the right, and a two-light casement in the 19th century addition on the right end. The left end is blank, while there is a first floor casement on the right end. The rear features the two wings, various doors and casements, a 19th century canted bay, and several early 19th century unhorned sash windows.
Inside, there are boxed bridging beams, and while the massive stack remains, the fireplaces are blocked. Most ceilings are plastered and flat, but rafters are visible in a ground floor room of the rear wing. The interior contains many early and later 19th century plank and panelled doors, including one earlier four-panel door with raised and fielded panels. The roof has been partly renewed, but many coupled rafters with clasped purlins are still present. There are straight stairs, including a separate staircase leading to the upper storey of the right end addition, which has access to the back door and may have been built to accommodate farmhands.
Glebe Farm House is a sizeable 18th century farmhouse located opposite the church, forming a significant group with it and other surrounding historic buildings. The main structure remains reasonably intact, along with the ground plan and the massive stack. The preservation of many early 19th century sashes is an important architectural feature.
