Description

Wyham House is a house that contains some fabric from the 14th century, with extensive remodeling from the early 17th century and early 19th century, along with additions and alterations from the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed of chalk block, with ironstone and red brick dressings, and features a hipped slate roof with two wall stacks. The building is two stories high with a three-bay front that has a 20th-century moulded eaves cornice.

The central entrance consists of double half-glazed doors with a plain overlight, framed by a moulded stone architrave set in a Doric pilastered wooden surround with an open pediment. This is flanked by tall glazing bar sash windows on the ground floor and three smaller similar windows on the first floor. The windows have splayed stucco lintels and have been inserted into an earlier chalk wall, with brick closers in the reveals.

On the left side elevation, there is a moulded 14th-century plinth and an integral buttress, with the scar of another buttress visible. All the windows on this elevation are from the 20th century. To the right of the front is a 20th-century single-storey extension. The interior features an early 17th-century oak stair with large bulbous turned balusters and newels topped with large ball finials. The medieval fabric may be part of a grange that belonged to the Gilbertine Priory of North Ormsby.
