Description

Pit Farmhouse is a mid-to-late 18th-century farmhouse with alterations made in the early 19th century, potentially in two phases, and minor later additions. It is located in the rural area of Ellesmere. The farmhouse is constructed of red brick with a slate roof and is arranged in an L-shape, consisting of a main range and an early 19th-century addition to the rear on the left. It is three storeys high with a moulded stone eaves cornice. The front has three 16-pane glazing bar sash windows on each floor, with painted stone wedge lintels to the ground and first floors, the second-floor windows being smaller. A central doorway has a round-headed arch with a five-panel door and a wreathed and radiating fanlight. There are external end stacks. A lower, early 19th-century two-storey addition to the rear features an integral end stack.
