Description

Shellbrook Hill is a house built around 1843, with some minor later additions and alterations. It features purple brick construction and hipped slate roofs with deep eaves. The main part of the house has three bays across and three bays deep, while a long four-bay service range extends at a right angle to the right. The building is two storeys high and has a continuous stone cill band at the first floor, a stone plinth, and four brick pilasters on the front.

The windows are arranged in a 1:1:1 pattern, consisting of glazing bar sashes with overlapping plain stone lintels. The lower left window has 15 panes and extends to the ground, while the upper right has a small narrow window immediately to the left. The central entrance features a moulded round-headed arch and an inner recessed round-headed doorway with half-glazed double doors and a semi-circular fanlight.

On the left side of the building, there are three French casements with margin lights beneath an ornamental glass-canopied cast-iron verandah that continues to the right bay at the rear. The rear has a slightly recessed central bay with a full-width canted bay projection on the ground floor, which includes three 15-paned glazing bar sashes extending to the ground. There are ridge stacks located to the left and right at the front and rear, as well as one to the left of centre on the service range.

The interior was not inspected during the resurvey in February 1987, but it was noted to have panelled window shutters for the French casements and the canted bay projection at the rear. A sundial dated 1843, which is not included in the listing, stands at the front, likely indicating the date of the house's construction.
