Description

Vron Farmhouse is a farmhouse that dates back to the 15th century, with remodels in the late 17th century and early 19th century, and an extension added in the late 20th century. It is built of red brick that incorporates a cruck frame and has a slate roof. The original layout was an open-hall house with two or possibly three framed bays, which was truncated by one bay and floored over in the late 17th century. The house was rebuilt in brick in the early 19th century and extended by one bay to the right in the late 20th century.

The farmhouse has one storey and an attic, featuring 20th-century casements in the centre and to the right, along with three contemporary gabled eaves dormers. To the left, there is sandstone rubble associated with an end stack, which has been rebuilt in 20th-century red brick; there is also a 20th-century integral end stack to the right. The entrance is located at the left gable end, accessed through a late 20th-century flat-roofed porch that is not of special architectural interest.

Inside, two true cruck trusses remain, with the left truss likely having originally been central to the open hall, while the right truss was probably also internal but became external during the early 19th-century remodelling and late 20th-century extension. Both trusses have king-posts of the Alcock apex-type G on slightly cambered collars, with arch-bracing on the left truss, although only mortices survive at the front. The ground floor features square panelled timber-framed cross walls beneath the trusses, along with a chamfered spine beam and heavy joists in between.
