Description

Parsons Hall Farm is a farmhouse that dates back to the early 14th century, with additions from the 17th century and mid-19th century, as well as alterations from the late 20th century. The building is timber-framed, featuring painted brick and rendered infill on a rubble base, with roughcast at the north end. Some sections have been replaced with painted brick, and the roofs are covered with plain tiles, supported by 19th-century brick stacks.

The farmhouse is a cruck hall house consisting of two and a half framed bays, oriented roughly north to south. It has a large inserted chimney at the north end of the central bay and a smaller inserted chimney at the south end. A single framed bay was added at the south end in the 17th century when the original section was divided into two storeys, and chimneys were added. Additionally, a 19th-century bay was added to the southwest. The structure is one storey with an attic that includes dormers.

The framing of the original part has four panels from the sill to the wall-plate, while the later additions have three panels, short straight braces across the upper corners, and collar and tie-beam trusses with struts exposed at the south end.

On the main east elevation, the original section features two ground floor two-light 20th-century casements, two gabled dormers with two-light casements, and a lean-to addition with a catslide roof and 20th-century gabled double doors. The 17th-century addition to the left has an external brick chimney and a ground floor six-pane window. The main entrance is located at the gable end of the 19th-century addition, which includes a lean-to timber porch and a partly glazed 20th-century door. There are also attic lights in the gable ends, and the lean-to addition is attached to the west elevation.

Inside, four pairs of cruck trusses are visible, all featuring collars, although they have been slightly altered except for the north end truss. The second bay from the north end has a chamfered ross-beamed 17th-century ceiling and a large inserted fireplace from the same period.
