Description

The Lodge and Lodge Cottage is a mid-18th century lodge built for Kyre Park, later divided into two houses. The building has been altered in the mid-19th century and mid-20th century. It is constructed of handmade brick with a plain tiled roof and front and gable-end parapets, featuring a brick stack on the right side of the ridge and another external brick stack with tiled offsets on the left. The building is two storeys with an attic, and has a dentilled eaves cornice at the base of the front parapet. The windows are 20th-century replacements; the outer bays have 2-light ground floor casements with gauged flat heads, and Venetian windows on the first floor with arched brick heads. The central bay, which slightly projects, has a similar first-floor window with a projecting keyblock to the arched head. Above the central bay is an open pedimented gable surmounted by a square finial, which contains a Diocletian window, also with a projecting keyblock. A large round-headed archway with keyblock and imposts is on the ground floor, containing a recessed entrance with a gauged flat head and a 20th-century door. The gable ends have attic lights. A rear wing with a cat-slide roof and a 20th-century lean-to addition at the left end are also present.
