Description

Norgrove is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with alterations and additions made in the mid-19th century. It features a timber frame with painted brick and rendered infill on a rubble plinth, along with some brick replacement walling, weatherboarding, and pebbledash on the west elevation. The roofs are plain tiled. The building has a hall and cross-wing plan, with the hall section aligned north-south and consisting of two framed bays. There is a large external rubble chimney to the east of the south bay, which has offsets, a brick stack, and a lean-to bread oven on its south side. The cross-wing at the south gable end also comprises three framed bays and has an external brick chimney at the east gable end, adjacent to the bread oven. The structure is single storey with an attic that includes a dormer.

The framing consists of three panels from the sill to the wall-plate, with collar and tie-beam trusses featuring struts throughout. On the main east elevation, the hall section has two ground floor two-light casements with plank weatherings, and a large gabled dormer with a five-light casement. The main entrance is located in the north gable end within a large lean-to addition, with an attic light above. Inside, there is a large fireplace with a range in the south bay of the hall and a winder staircase in the cross-wing. Additionally, there is a single-bay, single-storey 19th-century addition that adjoins the east gable end of the cross-wing, partly enclosing the external chimney and featuring its own external chimney at the gable end.
