Description
The Church of St Michael and All Angels is a parish church built in 1807 on the site of an older building, with alterations made in 1864. It is constructed of sandstone rubble and tufa, featuring sandstone ashlar dressings, a brick dentilled eaves cornice, and plain tiled roofs. The base of the west tower was retained after the upper part fell down in 1864; it has a gabled design that continues the main ridge and includes a gabled bellcote with a pointed-arched opening housing a single uninscribed bell. The base also serves as the entrance porch, which has a pointed doorway on its west elevation.
The nave and chancel feature two large lancet windows on the south elevation and one on the north elevation, all with plain glazing. To the east of the north window, there is a large raking buttress. The east end has a Y-traceried window that retains its original quarry-leaded glass. Inside, the church is plastered throughout and includes oak panelling with a frieze at the east end and in the north-west of the nave. The early 19th-century altar rails have turned balusters and fluted posts. A mid-19th-century octagonal stone font features pointed-lobed quatrefoil decoration. This small, simple church is located close to Court Farmhouse.
