STOKE BLISS CP BROMYARD ROAD (east side) The Grove

GV II

Farmhouse. Probably late C17, altered late C18, mid-C19 and late C20. Brick on brick and rubble base, plain tiled roof with gable-end parapets and partly rebuilt brick ridge stack. Two storeys, cellar and attic with dentilled eaves cornice. Four bays; the central two bays break forward slightly and are surmounted by a shaped gable. The windows all have cambered heads and Gothick traceried 2-light casements. The central gable contains a circular opening with a quatrefoil shaped window. The central entrance has a doorway with a two-centred head with a half-glazed door and the arched head above is also glazed and has two glazing bars. The entrance is approached by a flight of eight sandstone steps. Attic lights at gable ends. Also truncated chimney stack and lean-to outshut at left end. There is a tall central wing at rear containing the main staircase. Also a sub- stantial wing to rear right of timber-framing and brick which has been much altered and restored in the C20. Interior: there is a large central fire- place and also the winder staircase survives in the stair wing.
