Description

Fold Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the mid-17th century, with additions and alterations made in the late 19th century. The building features a timber frame with rendered infill on a rubblestone plinth, which has been replaced or encased in early 19th-century red brick in a mixed bond on the front. The right gable end is constructed of roughly coursed and dressed limestone rubble, which also indicates the width of the stack. The roof is made of corrugated iron.

To the left, there is a late 19th-century addition made of red brick and rubblestone, topped with a plain tile roof. The original two-cell plan of the farmhouse was extended to the left during the late 19th century. The farmhouse stands two storeys high, with 19th-century cast-iron casements on either side of a boarded door, which is situated under a contemporary gabled timber porch to the left of centre. The first-floor windows are positioned directly below the eaves. There is a large integral end stack on the right, featuring a 19th-century red brick shaft, and the building has double-purlin ends.

In terms of framing, there are rectangular panels, with three from the cill to the wall-plate. Inside, the right ground-floor room has a chamfered spine beam and exposed joists, while the left back room, which serves as a dairy, has a stone-flag floor. A central wall post and principal rafter can be seen beneath the wallpaper on the first floor. The late 19th-century addition to the left is not considered to have special architectural interest.
