Description

Cwm Lane Cottage is a cottage dating from the mid-17th century, with its eaves raised in the late 18th century, and features later additions and alterations. It is constructed of timber framing with roughcast infill set on a rubblestone plinth, topped with a machine tile roof. The original design follows a two-cell plan, with the eaves raised during the 18th century. The cottage has two storeys and displays slightly irregular square and rectangular panels, with two panels extending from the cill to the original wall-plate. The front features short straight tension braces, while the right gable end has more regular panels and an original queen-strut truss, complete with upper and lower collars and raking struts visible from the upper collar. The left gable end is made of uncoursed limestone rubble.

There are windows on either side of a central 20th-century half-glazed door, which is sheltered by a contemporary porch that includes a glazed outer door. The cottage also features 19th-century casements directly below the eaves and 20th-century casements on the ground floor. A prominent stepped external end stack with red brick capping is located on the left side. The interior has not been inspected but is reported to have chamfered ceiling beams on the ground floor.
