Description

Leigh Hall Farmhouse is a farmhouse that dates from the late 17th century, with remodels from the early to mid 19th century and later additions and alterations from the late 19th century. The building is constructed of uncoursed limestone rubble and red brick, and it was formerly partly timber framed but is now roughcast, topped with a slate roof.

The farmhouse has two storeys and a gable-lit attic. On the north-east side, there are two casement windows on each floor, with the upper left window being a 19th-century segmental-headed design, while the others are from the 20th century. The right gable end features two mid-19th-century casements on the first floor and a 20-paned glazing bar sash window on the ground floor. To the left, there is a prominent 19th-century rubblestone lean-to dairy, which has been partly rebuilt in the 20th century. The right side has an internal end stack with its top rebuilt in 19th-century red brick, and a large lateral red brick stack is located on the left.

Inside, the former kitchen, which is now a garage, has two chamfered spine beams with flat joists. There are also two oak staircases and several plank and muntin doors with pointed strap hinges. A late 19th-century two-storey red brick range at right angles to the south-west is noted but is not of special architectural interest.
