Description
This is a cottage located in Chirbury, dating from the mid- to late 17th century, with later additions and alterations. It features a timber frame with plaster infill and painted uncoursed rubble on the right gable end, topped by a reed thatch roof. The building has a two-cell plan with an integral end stack and is one storey high with an attic. The framing consists of irregular square and rectangular panels, with later horizontal members added to the front and two panels extending from the cill to the wall-plate at the rear. There are late 19th-century casement windows on both sides of a contemporary boarded door, along with two raking eaves dormers. An integral rubblestone end stack is located on the left, with a late 19th-century red brick shaft adjoining it. A single-storey brick lean-to below contains a late 19th-century laundry. The right gable end shows exposed single-purlin ends, and lath and plaster infill is visible in one of the panels on the back wall. The interior has not been inspected but is likely to be of interest. The cottage is also known as Wolf's Head Cottage.
