Description

Stockton Mill is an early 19th-century mill, now disused, located in Chirbury. The building is constructed of roughly coursed limestone rubble with a red brick upper storey, and has a slate roof. It comprises three levels. On the east side, the ground floor has two window openings with segmental brick heads, and a segmental-headed doorway to the right. The first floor has a similar segmental-headed window to the left of centre, and the left gable end displays a flat-headed opening. The interior shows partial loss of the first and second floors, but retains cross and spine beams, including stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops. Original cogs for grinding and pulleys for lifting gear survive, along with a millstone (not in situ) on the first floor. The mill wheel itself is no longer present.
