Description
The Slip is a farmhouse located in Buildwas, dating from the 17th century, with significant later additions and alterations primarily from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The building features a timber frame on a brick plinth, with painted brick infill and machine tile roofs. It originally had a two-cell plan, with a slightly later range extending at right angles to the rear. This has been modified by the addition of a mid-19th century gabled brick range at the back, along with a larger timber-framed extension and a parallel range added in the late 19th or early 20th century.
The farmhouse is one storey with an attic, showcasing framing with square panels, two from the raised cill to the wall-plate, and v-struts from collars to the gables. The windows are irregularly placed; the 17th-century section has one late 19th-century and one 20th-century metal casement window on either side of a 20th-century flat-roofed entrance porch. Above this porch are 20th-century gabled eaves dormers on both sides. To the left, the late 19th or early 20th-century addition includes a five-light canted bay window on the ground floor, with a full gabled dormer directly above it, and features contemporary red brick ridge and end stacks. The interior has not been inspected, but it is reported that the timber frame of the 17th-century part is largely intact.
