Description
Thatch Cottage is a cottage that likely dates from the late 17th century, with later additions and alterations. It features a rendered timber frame set on a rubblestone plinth, rising to the left gable end, and is topped with a straw thatch roof. The building has a two-cell plan. There are small 19th-century casement windows to the left and right of a central boarded door, which has a glazed panel at the top, all beneath a 20th-century gabled timber porch. The first-floor windows are positioned directly under the eaves. An integral end stack is located to the left, featuring a red brick shaft. Although the interior could not be inspected during the resurvey in August 1986, it was noted to have a chamfered spine beam and heavy joists in the left ground-floor room, which also includes an inglenook fireplace with a 19th-century cast-iron cooking range.
