Description

The Old Farmhouse is a farmhouse that has been converted into a house. It dates from the late 18th century and has had later additions and alterations. The building is constructed of rendered uncoursed limestone rubble sitting on a chamfered plinth, with stone angle quoins. It features a double-span slate roof with coped verges supported by carved stone kneelers and integral end stacks in the valley, which have red brick shafts.

The farmhouse is two storeys high with an attic and has a moulded eaves cornice at the front and a brick dentilled eaves cornice at the rear. There are three windows, which are 19th-century three-light casements set in segmental-headed stone surrounds. Flanking the central pediment at the top are late 19th-century gabled eaves dormers, which have coped verges and a lunette window. The central entrance features a stone plain pilastered doorcase with reeding above a Gothic-traceried rectangular overlight. A 19th-century half-glazed door is approached by three semicircular stone steps. To the right, there is a cellar with a plank door leading to the plinth where the ground drops.

At the rear, there is a splayed single-storey addition made of painted brick, which has a plain tile roof. The interior was not inspected during the last survey in August 1986, but it was noted to have panelled window shutters in the front ground-floor rooms.
