Description
The Round House is an estate cottage located on Mill Street in Hopesay, likely built in the late 18th century. The eaves were raised in 1825, as indicated by a datestone, and there have been minor later additions and alterations. The building is constructed from roughly coursed limestone rubble and features a conical slate roof, with smaller slates towards the top, and a circular stone stack at the center. It has a circular plan and stands two storeys high, showcasing a crude dentilled eaves cornice. The windows include small 19th and 20th-century casements, with those on the first floor positioned directly below the eaves. To the right of the front entrance, there is a late 19th-century canted bay window that was formerly a shop front. The entrance features a four-panel door beneath a gabled timber porch, with the datestone "FM/1825" positioned above.
Inside, the front ground-floor room has exposed joists and a stone fireplace. There is a late 20th-century timber lean-to on the left, which is not of special architectural interest.
