Description

A former bank, surgery, and house, dating from the 18th century. The building is constructed of roughcast stone with a slate roof. It is two storeys high and originally comprised five bays, with the first bay set back and lower in height. The ground floor features two casement windows in the first bay. The second bay has a shop window and entrance; the entrance is topped with a label mould, a casement window, and a five-panel door. The lower two panels of the door are flush, and the upper light contains glazing bars. The third and fourth bays have an entrance flanked by windows, with an entablature and leaded glazing – this is an early 20th-century addition. The entrance has fielded-panelled pilasters and a round-headed pediment containing a plaster cartouche with the letter "L". The fifth bay has a sash window with glazing bars. The first floor has sash windows with glazing bars, and the first bay has a large window with small-paned fixed glazing. There are two gable-end stacks and one on the gable end of the second bay. The rear of the building includes an outshut and an entrance to Bank House. Windows on the rear include casements, one horizontally sliding sash, and one sash with glazing bars. An end bay projects with a recess, and steps lead to a first-floor entrance on the left return. An old wide-board door is within the recess.
