Description
The Hawkshead Cooperative Store, formerly known as Hawkshead Co-operative Store and Judith's Hair Salon, is a Grade II listed building located on Main Street in Hawkshead. The building dates back to 1732, as indicated by the slate date stone inscribed "WWD/1732".
It is constructed of roughcast stone with a slate roof and stands two storeys high with three bays. The ground floor features three shop windows, each with fascia boards and cornices. On the first floor, there are sashed windows with glazing bars, with the window in the third bay having thicker glazing bars, suggesting it may be older. The entrance is marked by a slate gabled canopy that sits above the date stone.
The right side of the building has a coved slate canopy and garage doors, along with casement windows and a staircase leading to the first-floor entrance. The left side, facing Main Street, includes a gable-end stack and a rear wing, which also has a gable-end stack. The windows in the wing are casements, positioned beneath a dripcourse.
