Description

The King's Arms Public House is a 17th-century building located in Hawkshead, on the north side of The Square. It is constructed of roughcast stone and features a slate roof. The building stands two storeys high and has five bays, with the end bays projecting under cat slide roofs.

On the ground floor, the second bay has a 20th-century casement window, while the fourth and fifth bays have sash windows with vertical glazing bars and horns. The first-floor windows consist of casements, with the fourth and fifth bays again featuring sash windows. The central entrance is adorned with a gabled slate canopy and is located at the first bay. The first floor extends to the right over a passage and includes a casement window. The building has gable-end stacks, and the left return features two small lights on the ground floor.

At the rear, there is a gabled wing. The first floor over the passage is tile hung, and the window here is a sash with glazing bars and horns. The two bays to the left of the wing have a flat-roofed ground floor extension, with sash windows featuring glazing bars on the first floor. The left return of the wing has a four-light wood chamfered-mullioned window on each floor, with the ground floor window originally ungazed but now having intermediate bars and glazing inserted behind. The gable end has a small sash window and a casement under a drip course and stack. The bay to the right of the wing features a four-light wood chamfered-mullioned window with intermediate bars and glazing inserted behind.

Inside, the pub has chamfered beams and a wide-boarded door with a central panel.
