SKELWITH OXEN FELL NY 30 SW Low Arnside Farmhouse 2/183 and barn

II

House and barn. Early C18. Painted stone with slate roof. Barn not painted. 2 storeys, 3 bays. Windows have 2- and 3-light wood mullioned frames, chamfered on inside, with iron opening lights; slate dripcourses over; fire window to right. Entrance has slate gabled canopy. Gable-end stacks. Barn has cow house with entrance and window under projecting slate course; pivoted barn doors. Rear of house has lean-to extension; 2-light wood mullion frame to window in original back wall, plastered on inside. Rear of barn has blocked winnowing door and barn doors to cow house. Interior of house has chamfered beams and fireplace bressummer; 2 cupboards in fireplace, one with door. Plank and muntin partition has cupboard doors; wide boarded doors. Barn has hewn trusses and small rounded projection in house wall; probably bread oven. Property of the National Trust, the gift of Beatrix Potter.
