Description
High Oxen Fell Farmhouse is a farmhouse that features a bread cupboard dated 1673, although it may date from the 18th century. The building is constructed of painted stone rubble with a slate roof, while the end bay is not painted. It has two storeys and four bays, with the end bay possibly having originally served as a stable. There is a slate dripcourse above the ground floor. The windows are fitted with casements. The entrance is marked by an open gabled porch that includes benches. The left side of the building has a lean-to extension, while the right side has inserted windows with slate-hung lintels. The farmhouse has gable-end stacks and a cross-axial stack. At the rear, there are two gabled wings, and stone stairs lead to upper-level entrances. The property is owned by the National Trust, having been gifted by Beatrix Potter.
