Description

Chapel Cottage is a Bible Christian chapel that was enlarged to form a dwelling, dated 1889. At the time of the survey in April 1985, it was undergoing further enlargement. The building features roughcast over a rubble original structure and a roughcast addition, with a plinth and a parallel range of slate roofs that include a linking cross range. The eaves are overhanging, with plain bargeboards and shaped brackets on the chapel.

The plan consists of a chapel with a single-storey porch on the right and a parallel range of addition on the left, which is linked with an attic. The building is two storeys high and has a gable front. The original wooden pointed arch windows are located on the chapel's right side, while the left side has segmental headed cast iron windows that were salvaged from a demolished railway station. The chapel's first floor features three lancet windows, and the ground floor has taller lancets flanking the porch, which has a pointed arch doorway. On the left side, there are two first-floor windows and three ground-floor windows, with a three-bay left return that has a centre blind and a gabled dormer above. A date stone on the right gable end indicates the year 1889. The extension is noted for being very sympathetic to the original structure.
