Bible Christian Chapel

This is a Bible Christian chapel, dating to 1846. It is constructed of slate rubble, with the front rendered and lined out, and partly slate hung, featuring rusticated granite dressings. The roof is hipped and slate-covered, with lead rolls to the hips and ridge, and deep eaves. The building follows a simple plan with a single auditorium, an entrance to the front, and a ritual east-facing orientation toward the rear. A lobby at the front provides access, with stairs to the right and left leading to galleries on the front and sides, which face the rostrum at the rear. The chapel is a tall, single-storey building that stands on a chamfered granite plinth. The central double doors have a fanlight and are set within a round-arched, rusticated granite surround, with a datestone above reading "BC CHAPEL 1846" in upper, sans serif lettering. There are tall, round-arched windows with forty-eight panes each, featuring radial glazing bars and surrounds similar to the doorway, located to the right and left of the entrance. The right side of the building has two round arched windows, set high in the wall, each featuring twenty panes with radial glazing bars, and matching surrounds. The left side is slate-hung at the upper level, with similar high-level windows. The rear elevation is also slate-hung and contains two larger, forty-eight-pane windows with round arches, like those on the front, but without the granite surround. The interior is exceptionally well-preserved, retaining original fittings of good quality, which are rarely found for this date, including box pews and a leader’s pew, along with a gallery.
