Description

The Bible Christian Chapel with an attached Sunday school, dated 1886, features few later alterations. It is constructed of granite rubble with brick dressings and is partly rendered. The roof is bitumenised slate with ridge tiles and gable ends, and there is a gable end stack at the rear with a truncated brick shaft.

The chapel has a single auditorium plan with the entrance located at the front gable end, which also includes the ritual east. Built into a slope, the building is two stories at the rear, where the Sunday school is integrated. The exterior is symmetrical, featuring central 20th-century plank double doors set in a round arch made of dressed stone with a keystone. On either side, there are round-arched 19th-century four-pane sash windows with brick surrounds. Above the entrance, there is a circular recessed datestone with a brick border and the inscription: BCC AD 1886. The left and right sides have larger round-arched four-pane sashes with brick arches, and at the left end, there is a 20th-century window with a granite frame at the ground floor. The rear is rendered, with a central 20th-century plank door flanked by late 19th-century margin-glazed sashes. The first floor has two round-arched margin-glazed sashes.

Inside, the chapel is plain but retains original fittings. The entrance leads to a shallow lobby with doors on the right and left. The ritual east end features a Communion rail with turned balusters. At the rear, there are raked pews with carved front panels and a ceiled roof.
