Description

The Methodist Chapel is a Bible Christian chapel with an attached schoolroom, built in 1854. It was likely altered in the late 19th century when the schoolroom was ceiled. The building features roughcast over rubble and slate roofs, with the roof over the schoolroom slightly higher than that of the chapel. The chapel has a two-bay plan and is entered from the east gable end, while the shorter two-bay schoolroom is accessed via an external stair at the west gable end, which has a vestry below.

The east gable end is unlit and has a semicircular-headed porch supported by shaped brackets, with a fanlight above a plank door that has decorative hinges. The left return (south) faces the road and includes two semicircular-headed 12-pane windows with pivoted lower sections for the chapel, and two similar but taller 18-pane windows at the west end. A door that cuts into the central window has removed the lower six panes. The west gable end features an external stair made of squared and coursed rubble, with stone steps that have nosing and a wrought iron handrail leading to another plank door.

Inside, the chapel has a simple design with original fittings, including a semicircular arch supported on brackets at the west gable end, which is typical of Bible Christian chapels. Baptisms were recorded at this chapel in 1857.
