Description
The Methodist Chapel, originally a Bible Christian Chapel, was built in 1843, as indicated by the datestone. It is constructed of stone rubble and rendered, topped with an asbestos slate roof featuring gabled ends. A brick stack is located in the left-hand gable end. The building consists of a chapel on the right and a room on the left, which is situated above stables that were originally intended for visiting ministers; these stables are now used as a garage and Sunday school room.
The south front features the chapel on the right, which is a single storey and has a 12-pane sash window with the datestone below it. The room to the left projects slightly and has a 12-pane sash window above double doors leading to the stables below. An open timber porch is situated at the angle of the building, featuring a slate hipped roof and shaped timber fascias. Inside the porch, steps lead up to a plank door that provides access to both the Sunday School and the chapel, with a ramp leading to them, bordered by iron railings and a gate topped with trefoiled finials on the uprights.
The interior is simply furnished with pitch pine, including a gothic style rostrum, an organ, and benches. The chapel was built on land donated by John Snell.
