Description
Farmhouse. Built around the mid-19th century, with alterations in the 20th century. It is constructed of slatestone rubble with slate hanging on the front and left side, and has an asbestos slate roof with crested ridge tiles and gable ends. The chimney stacks have a rendered shaft on the left and a brick shaft on the right. The building follows a double depth plan. The front range includes a small room heated by a gable end stack to the left, an entrance and stair hall slightly off-centre to the left, and an unusually large room to the right, also heated by a gable end stack. This room is believed to have originally been a Methodist chapel in the 19th century. The rear features a scullery/wash house on the left, an unheated dairy in the centre, and a kitchen on the right.
The two-storey, nearly symmetrical front elevation has four windows. First floor windows include 16-pane sashes to the right and left, and two central 12-pane sashes. On the ground floor, there is a 16-pane sash to the left, and a recessed, rendered porch with a moulded outer architrave and a half-glazed door. To the right, there are two 20-pane sashes at ground floor, one set slightly lower than the other, although the internal floor level remains consistent. The left side is slate-hung, and the right side features a 20-pane sash to the left on the ground floor, a 20th-century window with a cambered stone lintel to the right, and a 20th-century light in the attic. The rear has a single-storey rubble lean-to to the left with a corrugated asbestos roof, a six-pane light, and a plain door. To the right, the dairy has an 8-pane, 2-light casement with a cambered stone head, similar to a blocked doorway with a 20th-century casement inserted. A single-storey lean-to porch with a plain door and a 2-light casement are located at the right end. The first floor rear windows are 20th-century lights. A tall 10-pane stair light from the 19th century is located off-centre to the right. First floor windows have timber lintels.
The stair hall contains a dog-leg staircase with stick balusters, and a wide hallway. The dairy has a slate floor, slate shelves lining the walls, and slate tables. 20th-century fireplaces are located in the gable end stacks.
