Description
The barn at Cuttivett is an early 19th-century structure that currently has no roof and features a later extension. It is built from slatestone rubble set on a plinth, with a decorative band of dark and light stone around all sides, and has greenstone dressings.
The barn is rectangular in shape and two storeys high, with gable ends. A single-storey lean-to has been added to the north side. At the east end, there is a partially collapsed external stone stair that once provided access to a loft.
On the south elevation, which is the main front, there are three doorways topped with greenstone voussoired lintels. To the east at first-floor level, there is an opening for a loading door with a timber lintel, next to which is a date stone, though the inscription is not legible. The east elevation also features the partially collapsed external stair leading to a first-floor opening, along with two rows of square pigeon-holes above in the gable end. The west elevation has two ground-floor openings with timber lintels and an owl hole in the gable.
To the north, there is an early 20th-century single-storey rubble lean-to that includes later concrete blockwork and a corrugated asbestos roof. Nearby, there is a former concrete water tank. Additionally, there is another upper opening for a loading door to the east of the lean-to, which has a blocked doorway below it.
The original roof, which was made of slurried scantle slate and featured halved and pegged principal rafters, has collapsed into the barn, causing some upper areas of the walls to disintegrate. No information is available regarding the interior of the barn.
