Description

This barn, likely dating to the late 18th or early 19th century, is constructed of coursed rubble stone with a stone slate roof. The south-east side features a projecting, hipped cart entry with a timber lintel and double timber doors. A small lean-to, now used as a garage and covered with corrugated asbestos, adjoins the barn to the left. To the right is an ‘L’ shaped lean-to with an artificial stone slate roof and a valley corner; a flight of 10 stone steps leads to a recessed plank loft door. A further lean-to is present on the left return, also featuring a corrugated roof, and another on the right return, which includes a 2-light casement opening with a timber lintel above its gable end. A second, opposed hipped entry is present, and is flanked by lean-tos, the one on the right accessed by a flight of 10 turning stone steps leading up to a recessed plank loft door and a kennel hole below the platform. The barn’s interior consists of five bays with collar and tie beam trusses and scattered square vents. A projecting 2-bay former animal shelter is located on the north-west corner, now with the bays filled in with stone walling and a door to each.
