Description
Enquire-The-Way is a house that likely dates from the 17th century. It is constructed of painted coursed stone rubble, with a rear wing made of stone rubble and cob. The roof is steeply pitched and covered with corrugated iron, featuring a half-hipped end on the right and a gabled end on the left, which has a projecting stone rubble stack. The front wing has a cement-washed gabled roof, while the rear wing is also covered with corrugated iron.
The house has a two-room plan with a central entrance and a stack at the lower gable end. There is a short projecting wing at the front lower end and a wing at the rear of the lower end, creating an overall T-shaped plan. The building has two storeys and a two-window south front, with the short gabled wing to the left and a 20th-century stone rubble porch at the centre in the angle.
On the ground floor, there is an early 19th-century three-light casement with glazing bars and horizontal sliding hinges in the projecting wing, and a 19th-century four-pane casement on the right. The first floor features an early 19th-century two-light casement with glazing bars and horizontal sliding hinges on the left, and a 19th-century four-pane sash in the main range on the right. The right-hand half-hipped end has an early 19th-century two-light casement on the ground floor and a small early 19th-century three-light casement above. A single-storey lean-to outshut extends along the west side. The interior has not been inspected.
