Description

This house, located at Newgate, dates from the early 19th century and has had some later alterations. It is built from squared granite rubble with brick dressings and features a half-hipped slurried slate roof with ridge tiles and end stacks that have brick shafts.

The house has a double depth plan, with a central entrance leading to principal rooms on the front left and right, both of equal size. There are shallow service rooms at the rear, with a small lean-to structure at each end.

The exterior is two storeys high and has a symmetrical three-window front. All windows are 19th-century six-pane sashes. The ground floor windows have cambered stone arches with keystones, while the first-floor windows feature cambered brick arches with keystones. The central entrance has a late 19th-century four-panelled door and is sheltered by a gabled trellis porch with a two-centred arch at the outer opening and sidelights. There are small single-storey lean-to structures at both ends of the house. The interior has not been inspected.
