Description

This is a house located at 48 Grenville Road, built around 1830 with some later alterations. It is constructed from random slatestone rubble, featuring granite quoins and brick dressings. The roof is hipped and covered with slate, equipped with ridge coping tiles, and has brick stacks on both the left and right sides. The building is partly rendered.

The house has a double depth plan, with a central entrance and principal rooms located to the front left and right, and a rear service wing on the left. It stands two storeys high and has a symmetrical facade with three windows. The first floor features 12-pane sash windows with brick segmental heads, while the ground floor has similar 12-pane sashes, also with brick segmental heads, and external shutters on the left and right. The central entrance includes a gabled and glazed porch on a brick plinth, with a half-glazed outer door that has margin glazing, and an inner six-panelled door topped with a fanlight. This entrance is recessed and set in a round-arched opening with panelled sides and soffit.

On the left side of the house, there are two 12-pane sashes at both the ground and first floors, matching those on the front. The two-storey rear service wing is rendered and features a 4-pane sash on both the ground and first floors. The interior has not been inspected.
