Description
Glenview House is a house, likely originally with a shop, built around 1830, with some later alterations. It is constructed from slatestone rubble with brick dressings and granite quoins. The roof is hipped and covered with slate, featuring deep eaves supported by brackets, and there is a brick stack on the left side and on the front slope.
The building has a double depth plan with an off-centre entrance to the right. To the right of the entrance, there are rooms at the front and rear, while to the left, there is one room that runs the full depth of the house, which may have originally served as a shop, heated by the stack on the side. There is a service wing at the rear right.
The house has two storeys and three windows. On the first floor, all windows are 12-pane sashes with cambered brick heads. The ground floor features a recessed doorway with a four-panelled door and a fanlight above, topped with a basket arch and cornice supported by consoles. To the right of the doorway is a 12-pane sash window, and to the left is a triple sash window with 20 panes in the center and 15 panes in the sides, flanked by pilasters and a cornice on consoles. At the rear, there are two 12-pane sashes on the first floor to the right, and a single-storey service wing to the left, which has a lean-to porch at the angle to the main range, along with one 12-pane sash window at ground floor right. The interior has not been inspected.
