Description

Tripcony House is a house built around 1830, with few later alterations. It is constructed of stone rubble, rendered and lined out, and features a hipped slate roof with rendered stacks on the sides and deep eaves. The layout consists of a double depth plan with a central entrance, principal rooms on the front right and left, a stair hall at the rear center, a room to the rear right, and a kitchen to the rear left.

The exterior is two storeys high with a symmetrical three-window range set on a plinth. All windows are 19th-century 12-pane sashes. The central flat-roofed porch has a half-glazed margin glazed door, with recessed panels on the sides and head featuring roundels and a cornice; it formerly had a balcony above. The right side of the house has a 12-pane sash window on both the ground and first floors. The rear, which is not rendered, includes a 15-pane central stair light and a 12-pane sash window on the first floor to the right. The ground floor has a single porch to the left and a single-storey scullery at the rear, with a 12-pane sash window lighting the kitchen.

Inside, there is a dog-leg stair with a scrolled string, twisted and wreathed handrail, and stick balusters. The front room on the right features a marble chimneypiece with a steel grate, while the front left room has a moulded cornice and a painted marble chimneypiece. Both front rooms have window shutters. The first-floor rooms retain 19th-century cast iron grates in the fireplaces. The ground floor includes four-panelled doors and a slate floor in the kitchen and rear passage.
