Description
The bank barn at Lanwithan Farm, dating from the mid-19th century, features a combination of watermill and barn functions. It is constructed from random slatestone and granite rubble, with granite dressings, and has a hipped slate roof with ridge coping tiles. The barn has entrances at ground level on the front side, while access to the upper storey is available from the higher ground at the rear. A launder runs underneath the barn, connecting the front and rear, and includes an open bay that houses the wheel, with the gearing machinery located in the left end bay.
The structure is two storeys high; the left bay contains a double doorway and a window at ground level, with a granite band course above, and large and small loading doors situated above. The wheel bay on the right is open to the front and rear up to the eaves height and features a wheel that is approximately 15 feet in diameter, equipped with wooden paddles and cast iron spokes. To the right, there are four doors and one window with a granite cill, along with three small and one large loading door above. At the rear, the right end bay has one door and one window, with additional doors providing access to the loft in the other bays. The interior has not been inspected.
