Description
The barn located 10 metres to the east of Trevarder Farmhouse is a bank barn dating from the early 19th century. It includes a stable, cartshed, mangle house, hay loft, and a threshing floor above. Although the waterwheel that once operated the threshing machinery has been removed, the barn retains its historical features. Constructed from rubble stone, it has a scantle slate roof that is hipped on both ends, with some repairs made using asbestos slate at the rear.
The barn is two storeys high and has an asymmetrical front with steps leading to the rear on the left side. The ground floor features three segmental arched openings with cut stone and granite lintels, along with a central double door that has a brick segmental arch. There are two window openings where cowhouse doorways have been blocked. A large round-headed opening for the waterwheel, which has been partly blocked and rendered, is also present. On the right side, there are two window openings and a central door.
Above, on the left, are two small two-light windows with cut stone and granite lintels. A large loading door is situated under a timber lintel, accompanied by two square openings, one of which is blocked. The entire length of the building features a row of pigeon holes under the eaves. The waterwheel, now removed, was powered by a piped stream that flowed through the barn. Additionally, there is a store that was originally a stable and piggery adjoining the right-hand gable end.
