Description
This building is a barn located 40 meters southeast of Penvith Farmhouse, dating from the early 19th century. It is a bank barn that likely includes shippons and a stable, featuring a threshing floor and a hayloft above. The structure is built of stone rubble and has a rag slate roof, with the barn on the left having half-hipped ends. The barn on the right has a lower rag slate roof with gable ends.
The left barn has an asymmetrical two-storey elevation with three shippon door openings below dressed stone segmental arches. There is a wider opening between the first and second openings, also with a dressed stone arch. Above, there are two openings with timber lintels and two double doors at the rear. The right barn has a symmetrical two-storey elevation with two window openings featuring dressed stone segmental arches with stanchion bars. It also has a wide central door opening with a similar segmental dressed stone arch and a plank door above on the first floor, along with pigeon holes below the eaves. The interior has had its stalls replaced. This barn is included for its group value with the farmhouse, which is an integral part of the farmstead.
