Description
This milestone, located 350 meters northeast of Great Tree, is likely from the late 18th century. It is a rectangular granite post with a rounded top, painted white, featuring black uppercase lettering. The inscription reads 'TORPOINT II', with the letters 'TOR' and the number '11' incised. Historical maps from 1907 and 1984 indicate that this milestone was originally marked as 'TORPOINT 14'. Documents related to the Liskeard-Torpoint Turnpike Acts can be found at Antony House in Torpoint, Cornwall, and are available through the Cornwall County Record Office. Additionally, refer to the Cornwall Record Office Turnpikes, Canals and Ferries Handlist No.5 from 1983 for more information.
