Description
This is an early 19th century milepost located on the A390 at Maudlin. It is made of painted cast iron and has a triangular shape with a half pyramidal head. The relief lettering on the left side reads "TORPOINT 16," while the right side states "LISKEARD ½ MILE TO THE CHURCH GATES."
Milestones like this one are important as they represent some of the few remaining physical markers of historical road use in the UK. This milepost is part of a series that reflects the standardization of roads and the establishment of turnpikes to support the transport needs of 19th century Cornwall's growing industrial and commercial landscape. It remains intact and is situated very close to its original location, contributing to its significance alongside other listed mileposts on this route.
