Description
The west gate of the Church of St Martin, along with the attached walls, dates from the mid-19th century. It features slatestone rubble walls and dressed granite monolithic gate piers, with wrought-iron gates. The wide gateway has unequal-sized gates that connect to serpentine-shaped retaining walls flanking the path, which includes three steps at the end of the south wall. The square gate piers have pyramidal heads, and the gates are ramped up at the sides. Additionally, there are cast-iron spearhead finials over the bars and urn finials over the stiles.
