Description

The Old Toll House, now a house, was built in 1842, as indicated by a datestone. It is constructed with roughcast render and granite dressings, including a plinth, a sill band to the first floor, and quoins at the front and to the porch. The roof is covered with dry Delabole slate, featuring projecting eaves rafters, and has rendered stacks; one lateral stack is on the left side, and a rear gable stack. The building has an L-shaped plan and two storeys, with part of the first floor within the roof space.

The road-facing front has a six-pane horned sash window above a four-stepped light window on the ground floor. A two-light wing is set back on the right, and the angle features a porch with a sidelight. The porch doorway has a shouldered head and a 20th-century door with an overlight. The left-hand return side has a first-floor gabled dormer with a four-pane horned sash window, and matching ground floor sash window to the left. A central stair light is situated above the sill band, with a pair of lights on the right. All windows have dressed granite frames, moulded imposts to the round arches, and sill brackets. The interior has not been inspected.
