Description
St Mewan Sunday School is a mid to late 19th-century building with few later alterations. It is constructed of granite rubble with brick dressings and features a slate roof with ridge tiles, gable end to the left, and hipped to the right. The roof has a louvre on the ridge, a rear lateral stack, and a stack at the right end with brick shafts. The building faces the churchyard and contains a large room on the left, heated by a rear lateral stack, and a smaller room on the right, heated by an end stack. It is built into the bank at the rear, where there is a coach house at a lower level with access from the back.
The exterior is single-storey facing the churchyard, with a gabled porch at the left end that has a two-centred arched doorway featuring an inner 19th-century door with strap hinges. To the right of the porch are five single two-centred arched lancet windows with brick arches and lattice glazing. The right end has a single-storey lean-to. The left gable end includes a two-light window at the upper level with a two-centred brick arch, Y tracery, and lattice glazing. At the rear, the building is two-storey; the ground floor has two single casements with flat brick arches and double doors to the right leading to the coach house with a segmental brick arch. The first floor features four two-centred arched windows to the right and one to the left, with a small gable over a two-light window with Y tracery and a two-centred arch on the left. The interior has not been inspected.
